A Nexorax throw is a polyester velveteen blanket with one printed panel, made by dye-sublimation, with double-needle stitched edges. That is the whole recipe, and each part of it changes how the blanket looks and feels.
Velveteen, and why it feels the way it does
Velveteen is a woven fabric with a short, dense pile on one side. The pile is what gives it the soft, slightly cool touch. Our blanks are polyester velveteen at about 300 grams per square meter, which is the print partner's stated specification. That weight sits between a light fleece and a heavy sherpa throw: enough to feel like something on your lap, not enough to be warm in a cold room by itself.
We do not run our own fiber tests, so we repeat the print partner's specification and stop there.
How the print gets on
The design is printed by dye-sublimation. The print partner prints the art onto transfer paper with sublimation ink, then presses the paper against the velveteen with heat. The ink turns into a gas and bonds with the polyester fiber. There is no layer of ink sitting on top, which is why the printed panel feels the same as the rest of the blanket and does not crack or peel.
Sublimation only works on polyester, and it works best on white or very light fabric. That is why every blanket here is white velveteen with the art printed as a panel, rather than a dyed blanket with a print on top.
What velveteen does to fine detail
Because the pile is made of many short fibers, a hairline in the art lands on several fibers instead of a flat surface. Thin lines and small text soften a little. On these designs that is most visible in the small seal text at the bottom of the badges. Large shapes, sunsets, palms, and the big banner letters stay crisp.
Product images on this site are renders from the print file placed on a blanket template, not photographs of a finished blanket. Expect the real blanket to be slightly softer in detail than the render, and expect screen colors to differ from fabric colors.
One side printed, one side plain
Only the pile side takes the print. The back is plain white velveteen. Fold the blanket and you see white; drape it over a couch back and the panel shows if it lands on the outside. The Size and care guide lists where the panel sits on each design family.
The edges
The edges are hemmed with two parallel rows of stitching, called double-needle stitching. It is the same finish used on t-shirt hems. It holds up to machine washing and does not need a separate binding.

Caring for it
